After Hurricane Isaias
What you document in the first days after a hurricane can shape the whole claim. Take these steps only when it is safe.
Avoid floodwater, downed power lines, damaged roofs, and unstable structures. Your safety matters more than any photograph.
Photograph and video every room, the roof line from the ground, the exterior, and damaged belongings. Note water lines on walls and record the date and time.
Make safe, reasonable temporary repairs such as tarping or drying out. Save receipts for repairs, supplies, cleanup, and temporary housing.
Notify your insurer promptly and keep a log of every call and email. If you have both wind and flood damage, you may have claims under more than one policy. We can review your situation and explain your options.

Hurricane Isaias property claims
Hurricane damage frequently involves more than one cause and more than one policy. Getting the cause of each loss right is one of the most important parts of the claim.
01 / WIND & ROOF
Missing or lifted shingles and tiles, damaged flashing, broken windows, impact from debris and trees, and damage to fences, pool cages, and screen enclosures.
02 / WATER INTRUSION
Wind-driven rain, roof leaks, wet ceilings and drywall, damaged flooring, and moisture that can lead to mold if not addressed and documented.
03 / FLOOD & SURGE
Rising water and storm surge are typically covered by a separate flood policy. We can discuss documentation and which policy may apply.
Coverage, deductibles, deadlines, and any payment depend on your policy and the facts of the loss. No coverage or settlement is guaranteed.
Your questions, answered
Make sure everyone is safe and follow official instructions before returning. When it is safe, photograph and video the damage before cleanup, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, keep every receipt, and report the loss to your insurer promptly.
Standard homeowners policies generally exclude flood and storm surge, which are usually covered by a separate flood policy such as an NFIP policy. Wind, wind-driven rain, and roof damage are typically handled under the homeowners or windstorm policy. Many hurricane losses involve both, so documenting the cause of each area of damage matters.
Florida homeowners policies often include a separate hurricane deductible, usually a percentage of the dwelling coverage rather than a flat dollar amount. Check your declarations page so you know what applies before you estimate your claim.
Florida law sets deadlines for giving notice of property insurance claims, and they are shorter than many people expect. Report your loss to your insurer as soon as reasonably possible and review the notice requirements in your policy.
A licensed public adjuster represents the policyholder, not the insurance company. We inspect and document the loss, prepare a detailed estimate, review the policy, and negotiate the claim with the insurer on your behalf. Learn more about our services →
Do not sign anything under pressure at your door. Verify any adjuster's license with the Florida Department of Financial Services ↗ before you agree to anything, and ask for fees and terms in writing.
